The TriDad Life

I am a new Dad, and I like to race in triathlons. This is my blog about trying to do both and enjoy life.

Dear Beanpod – About Dreaming

Dear Beanpod,

I am taking a short break on a workday to eat lunch and write you a quick note. A little secret of mine is that I like to watch something while I have lunch, particularly during the summer months.

You’ll find that life is full of contradictions and puzzling realities that you’ll just have to accept. For example, how is it possible that a die hard MSU Spartan like your father can almost instantly well up with tears when a movie about a Notre Dame Fighting Irish player comes on? (Your great grandpa Jack certainly has something to do with this).

Someday when you are old enough, you and I will watch this movie, Rudy, together. It’s about a young man who dreams big and overcomes all the naysayers who set expectations for what he could be. He never believed the expectations the world set for him and fought to execute his vision for his life, and to be what he alone knew he could become. It’s a dramatic interpretation, but there is truth in the fundamentals of the premise.

As you get older, you’ll find you naturally learn to accept limitations of what you can do in life. This is definitely not all bad. You discover who you are, your purposes, through trial and error, and prayer. Your dreams change in size and scope over time.

It will be amazing to witness a fresh canvas start to fill in as you come into the world. I’ll do my best to encourage your dreams and not set limitations for you. And I also have a feeling you’ll teach me, too, about new possibilities to dream in my own life.

It will be fun and rewarding, to dream anew with you, Beanpod.

See you soon.

Love,

Your Dad

P.s. Do not confuse this letter with having any options about your collegiate allegiance (at least until you are 18). Go Green!
